Game changer!!
We are taking on the Sierra Leone Approved School (young offenders’ institute), supporting them with key skills training tools in masonry, carpentry and joinery, tailoring, arts and crafts).
In addition to the tools we are providing for skills training at the Approved School, every young person who successfully completes a training programme will receive a full tool kit to take home upon release.
The Sierra Leone Approved School (Young Offenders’ Institute) is the only correctional institution for young offenders in Sierra Leone. Home to several dozens of young people, it lacks resources for skills training for the inmates.
Practical Tools Initiative have just delivered (July 2014) skills training tools for the school to help develop the school’s skills training programmes in tailoring, arts and craft, carpentry, and masonry.
The project will help train young people in their chosen fields and provide them with the materials and tools they need to help establish them as independent and self-reliant members of their respective communities upon release. The project will run for three years in collaboration with the institute and its volunteer trainers. During this period we will continue to provide additional tools and support, and help supervise training.
